First post

Welcome to my little corner of the internet, where I get to talk about my favorite things like crochet, being a mom, food, and whatever else comes to mind. I must warn you now, I'm not a professional. There will be grammar issues, spelling issues, and random rambles and tangents scattered throughout this blog. It's authentic, it's me.

For my first post, I figured I would introduce myself and set the tone for the type of posts I will be making. So let's get to it!

My name is Tristan Paschall. I married my long-term partner of 11 years last year. He's been my rock through everything and has always supported my wildest dreams. Including the one where I make crochet my full-time job. Without him, there wouldn't be a momdoingmomthings.

Along with my husband, I have two beautiful, chaotic children whom I love dearly. They're always begging for me to make them things and confenscating projects I've deemed unsellable. My oldest loves putting things she makes herself in my markets and crafting just as much as I did at her age, which I love so much. My youngest? Well, he just loves to destroy things and cut them up... we're working on that one.

I started crocheting when I was about 10 years old. I learned from my mom after years of watching my grandmother. I was amazed to watch her fall asleep in her chair crocheting away long after she had started snoring, just to wake up, count her row, and get right back to it. Growing up, she always crocheted me little dolls that looked like my sister and me, and I got matching blankets and pillow sets. Later, as I got older and realized how long it took, I started asking her to make me things like hooded scarves and accessories, which she always killed. Eventually, I begged her to teach me, and she sat me down and tried and tried to slow down long enough to teach me, but ultimately couldn't. So I bugged my mom until she taught me the basics like chaining and single crochet. I made good progress on that, but I eventually lost interest and stopped for about a year. Then I got grounded during the summer and started crocheting again. I got pretty far, started making new things and learning new stitches, and I've been crocheting ever since.

In 2016, I started blogging under the name of momdoingmomthings as a mom blog. Not really expecting it to go far, but just wanted a way to express myself. In 2020, I started selling my crochet makes under the name. That took off for a couple of years, and then I took a break to get my first job and came back after almost 2 years, and now I'm back!

Currently, I have a space in a local shop called the Hive Mind Market, which is a lovely little shop that has local shops set up year-round for everyone to come and shop throughout the week. I've already made my first sale there, so I have high hopes. I'm also currently working on a few patterns and starting the blog back up!

So now that you guys know a little bit more about me and momdoingmomthings, what can you expect on this blog? I plan on bringing crochet patterns, recipes, and informational posts, along with life updates and random things happening in my life. My goal is to help crocheters find a cozy place to read along when their hands are too tired to keep going, but also a place for my non-crocheting friends to enjoy as well. I will try to keep up with the demand of what you guys like to see, but I also want to keep this blog as a place for myself. I know you guys understand because youre so awesome and have supported me all this time.
